Being a pastor certainly wasn’t on my “to do” list. But after following God’s leading into the Roanoke Valley, then becoming passionate about the “church” while teaching young adults, then running headlong into God’s plans and preparations, Brittany and I are not only aware of our calling…we are ecstatic about it. We look forward to living, loving, and learning alongside the community/family of Genesis. It is going to be an amazing journey. We are happy to celebrate the journey with you! Welcome home!

My call was unexpected to say the least; I was fresh out of my junior year at Liberty University and enjoying a summer internship when the opportunity came onto the radar. I was instantly energized by the idea; a church formed from the dust by the Spirit of God and the community of the church at Roanoke. I agreed the same night i was asked, and the adventure has just begun.

In August of 09 I was approached by Craig, struggling through what God was stirring in my heart I battled my fear of moving away from everything I knew in order to fulfill God’s calling on my heart to serve at Genesis and in the city of Roanoke. I finally stepped into my calling and moved here at the beginning of the New Year. Now I want to see people fall passionately in love with Jesus Christ through the Worship at Genesis!

When Craig first asked me to work with him at GCC, I was very excited to work with him and get him organized and learn from him on how to run a ministry and how to organize a ministry. I was also excited to work with the congregation in a behind-the-scenes way. Seeing people and knowing their names because I’ve typed it so many times and learned about them in such a way that I can bless their lives without them knowing it’s me. I’m very excited to use the gifts that God has given in a way that can bless His children and honor Him!

Hobbies: Worship painting, drawing, and creating thingsMy call to Genesis:
I majored in art in college and honestly never expected to be working in full-time ministry, but God obviously had other plans for my life. After wandering down seemingly random paths post-graduation, I had trouble seeing how the pieces would fit together. I now understand how the opportunities God placed before me then have led me home to Genesis Community Church. The experiences I had working within different aspects of accounting and bookkeeping precisely prepared me to the place God intended me to be.
Extras:
Favorite color: Purple
TV show: The Office
Favorite Memory: My entire childhood was quite memorable; there are far too many (hilariously embarrassing) stories to list. Since I have to choose one, I suppose it would be the time some friends and the 10-year-old version of me decided to go roller-blading around the neighborhood. We approached a rather large hill, which we found too steep to skate down; my best friend, however, was convinced she could do it. As she gained speed, she hit a rock and flew through the air, then rolled to the bottom of the hill where she was finally stopped (by a stop sign, ironically). When we reached her, seeing she had bloodied knees, we decided to carry her back to her house (again, probably not the smartest move)…it was seriously one of the funniest moments of my life.
Favorite restaurant/food: Pretty much anything without peanuts…but mostly cheeseburgers!
Favorite Beverage: Coca-Cola…Mmm. -
Brandon WilsonAudio / Production
brandon@genesisroanoke.comHometown: Roanoke, VA
Hobbies: Music, PhotographyMy call to Genesis:
I’ve worked with Craig in many different capacities over the years (bass player, drummer, sound tech), but no matter what the job has been I have found that if we are faithful to the call that God has set before us, humble ourselves to others, and lift His name and His name alone, He will pour out his blessings. My hope as the audio/production manager is that I can serve in such a way that shows others not only the abilities that God has blessed me with, but also my love for Him.
Extras:
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite Band: Shane and Shane
TV channel: Disney (I’m a total dork!)
Favorite Boss: John (just kidding Craig)
Favorite Beverage: Diet Coke
Favorite Memory: My friend Caleb who also traveled with Craig was at an event and our hearts were heavy, so we went to the hotel room to play some music. That didn’t work out, so we went to the only place we could think of which was the hotel stairway. We worshiped for hours not because we were paid to, but out of an overflow of our love and need for Jesus Christ. It was awesome. -
